About Us
From December 2018 until July 2021, we operated as Bainbridge Island Girl Up, part of a United Nations hosted initiative. You can check our old site here to see what we accomplished! You can also view our Timeline.
We felt we needed to make a change, so as of July 30, 2021, we are now Girls Ignited. Our mission, however, remains similar: to empower, inspire, and encourage girls and young women to be changemakers. Of any age. From anywhere.
For now, we'll focus on amplifying the millions of girls whose passions have been ignited. Their stories and efforts will no doubt inspire you. We will make strategic decisions about where it's best to lead, follow, or partner with like-minded organizations and initiatives.
If you're a Girl Ignited or know of one, we want to hear about it!*

*Editorial Policy and Selection Criteria
At Girls Ignited, we value the contributions and achievements of all nominees and are dedicated to recognizing and celebrating young changemakers whose accomplishments make a significant impact. While we encourage public nominations as a way to highlight and celebrate these inspiring stories, we maintain full editorial discretion in the selection and publication of featured individuals.
Nominations Process: Each nomination is carefully reviewed by our editorial team. While we appreciate all submissions, final decisions on whom to feature are based on our internal selection criteria, which prioritize merit, impact, and alignment with the mission of Girls Ignited. We may request additional details or conduct research to ensure the accuracy and relevance of each feature.

Editorial Independence: Once a feature is published, it reflects our commitment to recognizing achievements that inspire others and the editorial integrity and standards of Girls Ignited. While we respect the perspectives of nominators and nominees, the decision to showcase someone is at our discretion. We reserve the right to maintain published features in order to preserve the credibility and continuity of our initiative. Once an article or feature is published, it remains part of the public record. Removal of content will only be considered in the case of factual inaccuracies.

Publicly Available Information: In most cases, the accomplishments of our nominees are already publicly documented in other forums. As part of our vetting process, we review publicly available information to verify the achievements highlighted in nominations. By submitting a nomination, you acknowledge that Girls Ignited may refer to existing public information during the selection and publication process, ensuring that the nominee’s accomplishments are accurately represented.
