Tell us about your organization, its mission, and your role.
Thinking Huts is a nonprofit that seeks to close the global opportunity gap with innovative, humanitarian technology solutions. We are on a mission to increase access to education by building 3D-printed schools where infrastructure is needed most. We plan to build our first 3D-printed school in Madagascar. I am the founder and CEO.
What are some of the biggest challenges your organization faces in its operations, and how did you overcome them?
The largest challenges revolve around being a young founder and often not being taken seriously as I worked to achieve my vision in a male-dominated technology industry. I overcame them by surrounding myself with a support system that genuinely celebrates my successes but is also there throughout the tough periods as well.
Is there anything you would have done differently when starting up or running your organization?
I would have reached out to people I admired sooner and asked for help instead of trying to figure it out on my own.
What does leadership mean to you? Describe how you lead.
Leadership means lifting up those around you as you rise. I believe in leading with compassion and building a familial culture rooted in trust. Your team is what sets you apart.
What would you say to girls or young women who are interested in making a difference or considering leadership?
Believing in yourself is the first step. Persevere and know that your dreams are valid. Consider volunteering for organizations and causes that you are passionate about.
Who inspires you?
My dad. He has always encouraged me to grow and supported my ambitions. He taught me to be confident, stand up for what I believe in, and the importance of respecting myself as well as others.
