This is an uncertain time. And yet, amid the physical, cultural and economic challenges affronting us at every level — from personal to global — now is the time to engage. At TEDWomen 2020, we will call upon our collective fearlessness to create a global step forward together
In this moment, diversity of ideas is more important than ever. As such, in collaboration with an incredible group of TEDx organizers, we'll celebrate and amplify the most interesting, dynamic, multi-dimensional ideas. Five TEDxWomen teams from across the globe --TEDxSydney, TEDxColombo, TEDxLagos, TEDxPortofSpain and TEDxMontrealWomen -- will each curate one talk to be featured on livestream as content. Some of these talks will be featured alongside several talks curated by TED as part of a virtual TEDWomen 2020 Conference.
TEDxWomen is an exciting opportunity to share some of the talks from the TEDWomen worldwide activation to a curated audience in our region, along with some other inspiring local speakers.
TEDxBainbridgeIslandWomen is our chance to help move the conversation about the power of girls and women in a meaningful way. We will showcase curated talks supplied by TEDWomen, along with live speakers from the Bainbridge Island community. Join us as we explore ideas worth spreading!

What is TED/TEDx/TEDxWomen
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; TED Translators, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established The Audacious Project that takes a collaborative approach to funding ideas with the potential to create change at thrilling scale; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. Follow TED on Twitter at http://twitter.com/TEDTalks, or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/TED.
About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

Our Criteria
Our goal at TEDx@BainbridgeIslandWomen is to present talks on issues that matter to our community and to spark a real dialogue about how to make a difference.
We seek ideas that are clear, concise, compelling, original and relevant. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review “What is a TED talk?” and content guidelines so they have a clear understanding.
As per TED, we are eager to consider ideas that:
-
Are radically new
-
Showcase fresh approaches to enduring problems
-
Challenge our conceptions about what’s possible
-
Expose us to cutting-edge research, technology or design
-
Energetically redefine the human experience
We reject ideas that are:
-
Vague or underdeveloped
-
Based on pseudoscience rather than quantifiable and specific data
-
Purely personal or motivational in nature
-
Already ubiquitous
-
Solely about overcoming adversity or obstacles

PARTNERSHIP FAQs
What is TEDx?
Based on the world-famous TED conferences, where well-known speakers from a wide range of fields present novel ideas to spark change, TEDx offers a similar opportunity to local communities. Though they are licensed to use the TED format and guidelines, these events are independently organized and allow everyday thinkers and dreamers to present their passions and ideas to a wide audience. This enables them to inspire others to become more involved in local, national and international initiatives, and go on to positively impact lives.
TEDxBainbridgeIslandWomen is an officially licensed TEDx inaugural event that is taking place on Soom on November 28, 2020.
Who will be speaking at the upcoming event?
Instead of the TEDWomen flagship conference that was held last year in Palm Springs, five TEDxWomen teams from across the globe --TEDxSydney, TEDxColombo, TEDxLagos, TEDxPortofSpain and TEDxMontrealWomen -- will each curate one talk to be featured on livestream as content. These five talks will be featured alongside several talks curated by TED as part of a virtual TEDWomen 2020 Conference. TEDxBainbridgeIslandWomen will also showcase the above talks along with those of local powerful women who are making an impact in our community.
Why should we be involved in TEDxBainbridgeIslandWomen?
As an event that aims to engage the community and amplify the voice of women, our event is an ideal platform for you to ideas and causes that directly impact. You or your organization can earn recognition for being a part of these positive changes while also promoting your brand.
How can we support the event?
We are currently seeking donations to offset the costs of our event. In accordance with TED’s regulations, all donations will be directly applied to the costs associated with organized and running the event, with any amount above this applied to future events. Costs that are greatly needed are for domain hosting, advertising, and any related expenses for hosting a virtual event with interactive features.
The types of sponsorship are:
-
Changemaker: $250
-
Innovator: $100
-
Visionary: $50
What do we receive in return for sponsorship?
TED rules govern the types of recognition that can be given for TEDx events. In order to adhere to those guidelines, we can provide the following for partners:
-
Your name and/or logo on social media and special thanks by the MC at the commencement and closing of the event
- Inclusion on the partners page of the official event website
-
Inclusion in all press releases and articles written about the event
Is there any other way to support the event?
Beyond financial sponsorship, we are also seeking a company to offer in-kind swag for speakers and volunteer team members. Please reach out if you feel your company or organization will be able to help with these items.
