EDUCATION

University of Washington-Seattle, July 2020 to present -- Mechanical Engineering

UW Academy was created in 2001 in partnership with the University of Washington Honors Program. It is an early university admission opportunity for 10th-grade students. Every year, a small cohort of up to thirty-five academically advanced and highly motivated students are admitted after applying during their 10th grade year. If accepted, students withdraw from high school at the end of 10th grade to enroll as freshmen at the University of Washington. 

I was selected in April 2020 as part of the 19.0 cohort.

JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS

University of Washington - Researcher, Autonomous Insect Robotics Laboratory, November 2022 to March 2023 - Design a mechanism for an insect-sized hopping robot with application to extra-terrestrial terrain traversal. Desirable attributes include being self-resettable, the ability to steer the jump, and being extremely lightweight (<1 g). Continuation of work done as a NASA Space Grant Scholar in the Summer of 2021.

University of Washington - Resident Adviser , August 2021 to June 2023 - Support and encourage residents to make the most of their experience by exploring their identity, developing meaningful relationships, making intentional choices and focusing on their trajectory at UW and beyond. Establish a cohesive and responsible community; model and support inclusive and welcoming communities; facilitate the holistic development of residents through one-on-one interactions; promote resident involvement; refer, advise and support residents as they manage academic and personal issues; enforce and abide by the policies of Housing & Food Services (HFS) and UW; demonstrate sound judgment; participate in and facilitate a team approach with coworkers; complete necessary administrative tasks; and provide quality customer service to residents and visitors.

NASA Space Grant Consortium Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) - Researcher (NASA Space Grant Scholar), June - August 2021 - Researcher on behalf of NASA Space Grant Consortium Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) under the supervision of Prof. Sawyer Fuller at UW's Autonomous Insect Robotics Lab. Working on jumping and insect-scale robotics for orbital re-entry.

BARN - Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network - Coding Class Instructor, July 2020 -- Created a three-day virtual camp and acted as main instructor to teach kids in the age 10-14 range how to code three games in Scratch. See details here

Microsoft Research - CTE Job Shadow Day, December 9, 2019  -- As part of our school district-sponsored event, I spent the afternoon with the team learning more about game-changing advances in artificial intelligence. The new research and development initiative combines advances in machine learning with innovations in language and dialog, human-computer interaction, and computer vision to solve some of the toughest challenges in AI.

BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

West Sound Technology Association - Board of Directors, October 2023 - present -- Founded in 2000, West Sound Technology Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to help foster a vibrant technology sector and innovation in the West Sound region.

 

BARN - Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network - Teen Council, November 2019 to June 2020 -- The Teen Council is an advisory group that supports youth leadership and programming within the organization by contributing their energy and ideas to make it an even better place for young people.

Bainbridge Island School District #303 - Committee for the District Improvement Plan Process, November 2019 to June 2020  -- One of 23 district-wide students nominated to represent the voice of students on the committee for the District Improvement Plan process. The DIP is the "guide" for the work done at all the schools - and this was a chance for students to get involved in shaping the future direction for the Bainbridge Island School District. There are three focus groups that include representatives from our schools, families, and the community: (1) Teaching & Learning; (2) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; and (3) Health & Wellness. One of 15 students ultimately chosen, and one of 5 who participated on Teaching & Learning,

AWARDS AND CERTIFICATES

2025 Grace Hopper Award for Outstanding Achievement, Seattle Girls' School - September 2024: Every year at its annual luncheon, Seattle Girls' School celebrates visionary Northwest women who have made significant contributions to their communities. These honorees are recognized for their leadership, whether through achievements in their field or by encouraging others—especially women and girls—to forge their own paths to success. I am honored to be chosen for this recognition in 2025, given my efforts to inspire young people and contribute to positive change. In May, I will accept the award and speak in front of an audience of over 600 people. Additionally, I'll have the chance to speak at a school Community Meeting, engage with SGS students and leadership, tour the campus, and learn more about the school's mission.

 

2024 Outstanding Youth Philanthropist, Bainbridge Community Foundation - November 2024: BCF's Annual Philanthropy Celebration was created to celebrate individuals and groups who have inspired incredible acts of giving—often realized through the work of nonprofits—and who have laid a strong foundation for others to follow in their footsteps.

USA TODAY 2024 Women of the Year - February 2024:
Selected as one of 60 women across the country who are leaders and entrepreneurs, activists and trailblazers in our communities. I was the honoree for the state of Washington.

 

Kode With Klossy Scholar - Summer 2021: Selected to learn one of three curricula (Website Development, Mobile Application Development - Swift, or Data Science - SQL and Python) with American fashion model Karlie Kloss. I relinquished my Web Development spot since I already possessed the skill and wanted another girl to have the opportunity. 

 

NASA Space Grant Scholar - June 2021: Summer Undergraduate Research Program at the UW (SURP) awards students the paid internship opportunity to work in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) research position that will complement their studies. Student researchers work under the guidance of a faculty member, postdoctoral scholar or research scientist at the University of Washington. Projects are available in most fields of physical and natural sciences, engineering and earth sciences.

 

Gold Level: President’s Volunteer Service Award - The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2003 to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too. Led by the AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, this program recognizes the most exceptional volunteers. Awarded in June 2021 for in excess of 600 hours volunteered between July 2019 and April 2020.

 

GEEKWIRE Junior Geek of the Month - January 2021  - Junior Geek of the Month is a monthly feature sponsored by Northern Trust in GeekWire, and spotlights amazing youth who are innovators, creators, or entrepreneurs in areas such as science, technology, engineering, and math. Selectees are also looking to make a positive impact on the world through their geeky pursuits. Junior Geek of the Month recognizes exceptionally geeky members of the Pacific Northwest community ages 12 – 20.

 

WISE (Women in STEM Excel) Scholarship Winner - September 2020  - WISE is a merit and community service-based scholarship awarded to a female student in Washington State who plans to attend any college or university and actively pursue a degree and career path in a STEM-related field at an institution of higher learning. This is the fourth annual award and I was selected as the winner out of all applicants across the state.

National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing (AiC) Award, State Affiliate Winner - February 2020

NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) Award Recognitions honor aspirations, abilities, technical accomplishments, and influential guidance. The Award for AiC honors 9th-12th grade students who self-identify as women, genderqueer, or non-binary for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education. Since 2007, nearly 14,000 students have received an Award for AiC.

Honors the district's guiding principles of STRONG MINDS, STRONG HEARTS, STRONG COMMUNITY.

Voices for Innovation Ambassador - 2015-2016

Advocacy Training, Policy and Advocacy Trip, Washington, D.C., in support of public policies that advance innovation and foster a dynamic technology industry.
